Waiting on God

If there’s something that God is really teaching me about lately, it’s this: there are incredible blessings and treasures available to those who wait on God.

Since finishing the ReadScripture plan last month, I have been reading and reflecting on one Psalm. Yep… one. I’ve been reading and waiting on God as I meditate on Psalm 25; a Psalm of David.

Every day as I’ve waited on God, re-read the Psalm and invited God to speak to and direct and shape me, God has revealed new insights and has spoken to me in a range of different ways. I have been personally challenged and encouraged. I have felt prompted to share a word of encouragement to different people in our church family. I have been led to lift my hands and praise God with energy and passion. It has been a truly powerful experience for me to simply sit with one Psalm for this length of time and invite God to speak to and lead me, as I wait for Him.

In Psalm 25:1-5 (ESV), David makes this declaration in the opening verses:

"1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me. 3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. 4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long."

This is the cry of a person who really wants to know God, isn’t it *|FNAME|*? This is the cry of a person who wants to wait on God and follow Him.

Why not set aside some time this week to “…wait all the day long” for God? Make the time to pause. Make the time to wait and listen. Listen for His soft voice (1 Kings 19:11-13) and invite the Holy Spirit to guide you and lead you in following Him (John 16:13).

Will you make the time to wait for Him this week, *|FNAME|*? I am convinced that if you do, you will be abundantly blessed by the Lord, just like I have been recently through practising this simple discipline.

Trust Him and wait on Him… and get ready to hear Him speak back to you!
