Our Awesome, Sovereign God!

There is something about the Psalms, isn't there? Reading through Psalm 147 as part of the ReadScripture plan the other day, I was struck by the sovereign goodness, power, and compassion of our God.

No wonder the Psalmist invites his hearers to praise the Lord and sing praises to God initially in verse 1, and then again in verse 7, 12, and 20! If you take a quick skim read of the first part of the Psalm, you will discover statement after statement that declares God's sovereign goodness, power, and compassion:

2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel.

3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.

5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.

6 The Lord lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.

8 He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills.

9 He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry.

Keep reading through to verse 20, and you will see that the list goes on and on and on. What an awesome, sovereign God we serve!

Do yourself a favour today *|FNAME|*: take the time to read through the entirety of Psalm 147 and reflect on the sovereign goodness, power and compassion of our God.

I'm sure you will be praising the Lord with thanksgiving throughout the rest of your day if you do!
