Haiti Emergency Response

Many of you would have heard about the devastation that the recent Hurricane caused in Haiti.

Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti with a category four storm on the 28th of September, and has killed approximately 1,400 people in Haiti and has destroyed tens of thousands of homes. More than 60,000 people are currently staying in temporary shelters. Haiti is the poorest country in Latin America, and one million people are anticipated to be in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

It is easy to think - as we watch these kind of tragic events unfold on our tv screen and Facebook feeds - that there is nothing we can do. We can feel powerless. We can feel completely overwhelmed. We can feel like there is no way that we can make a difference in these kind of situations.

Whilst we can feel this way at times, I want to encourage you that together, we CAN make a difference in the world. Together we CAN help to bring some light and hope into a truly horrific situation. How can we do this?

Together, we CAN make a difference through our partnership with World Vision Australia. World Vision work collaboratively with the UN and other aid organisations who are directly involved in the work on the ground in Haiti. Together we can support others as they serve and love people practically, as they give out food, water and the most essential supplies to people who have lost everything.

At our service this Sunday, we are going to be taking up a special offering for Haiti. I want to encourage you: consider joining with us to give to this cause. Together with World Vision we CAN make a difference in this tragic situation.
