Fruit for God's Glory!

Over the last few weeks we have been exploring Paul's teaching on the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5. This is perhaps one of the most well known passages in the Bible. I think there would be many non-Christians who might even be familiar with the fruit if you were to ask them!

There is one crucial thing that we need to understand about the Fruit of the Spirit. The fruit is not about us, it is all about God. The fruit is not about us.

What do I mean when I say that?

It is easy in our culture of self-help and self-advancement to get caught up in thinking that these kind of passages exist in the Bible to help make me a better person. To make me the best person that I can be.

Without any shadow of a doubt, when you allow the Holy Spirit to birth and foster these fruits in your life, you WILL be the best person you can be. But that is not why we seek God and ask Him to birth fruit in our lives.

We seek God and ask Him to plant, water and tend to fruit in our lives for one reason: that God may be glorified. We develop and allow the fruit to grow in our lives that others might see the glory of God and come to trust in Him! The Fruit of the Spirit are all about God’s glory and are not about us.

God wants us to develop the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives so that people would not look to us, but would look to the one who created us! To the one who is the sovereign, almighty, all-powerful God!

Let's be people who allow the Holy Spirit to grow and develop the fruit in our lives: not for our benefit, but for God's glory.
