Creating a safe church
Children are a gift from God, a blessing. It is a privilege to have them as part of the church. Jesus addresses the children in the scriptures when He says, “Let the children come to me.” Back then, children weren’t considered very valuable to the community, so Jesus saying this would have been quite controversial. However, Jesus lets us in on a little secret: everyone is welcome in God’s Kingdom, including children. This means that in a church, the children need to meet Jesus as much as anyone else.
Part of this is for us to allow that process, for us to create opportunities for kids to explore their faith, such as in Liberty Kids and Crèche. However, even deeper than this, is creating a safe place for them to live and move freely so that they can meet Jesus. This is one of the reasons why we are asking all volunteers to have a current ‘Working with Children Check’ and be ‘Child-Safe’ trained. If we have a safe place for parents to bring their children, then more children will be able to meet Jesus. Government regulations aside, this is the intent of the stance on this important and sensitive issue. I thank you for partnering with the Liberty Eldership on this decision and look forward to seeing you volunteering for Liberty Family Church.
Any questions or queries about this decision please don’t hesitate to come and see me.
Blessings and peace,
Ps Neil Milton
