Ask God For Protection
Do you make a habit of praying before you take off on a journey in your car, *|FNAME|*? It's something that we often do in our family. When we're buckling up and checking mirrors, Laura or I will say: "How about we pray for our journey?" and one of us will pray to God and ask Him to protect and watch over us as we travel.
The other day when I was reading Ezra 8, I saw a similar kind of request being made by Ezra and his fellow Israelites who were travelling themselves. Ezra 8:21-23 (NIV) outlines the request they made and how God responded to their request:
21 There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions. 22 I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.” 23 So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
Don't you love how God responds in verse 23, *|FNAME|*?
"23 So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer."
Friends, our God wants to protect us. He wants to guide us. He wants to walk with us as we take every step forward in life.
So do yourself a favour, *|FNAME|*: fast and pray for God's protection. Humbly seek God this January and ask that He would keep and protect you this year. While you're there, pray that He would protect all your friends and family at Liberty Family Church too.
He loves answering prayer and He loves it when His children seek Him with humility!
