Are You Doing a Jonah?
I was listening to the book of Jonah in my car on the way to physio the other day and I was once again challenged, particularly by the first three verses:
1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.
It got me thinking... Are there things that God has directly asked me to do in life that I have run away from?
After finishing the book, it becomes clear that God knew best (no surprise there really!!). God simply loved the people of Nineveh and wanted to give them another chance, but He needed Jonah to be His mouthpiece. When Jonah ultimately did as God asked him to do, the people of Nineveh did listen to him and when God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.
I guess what I'm saying is that God knows best! God knows the bigger picture and when He asks us to do something, it would be wise for us to do as He asks, no matter how hard it may seem to be.
Is there something God is asking you to do right now?
Has He prompted your spirit to share Jesus with someone?
Is there someone God is asking you to forgive?
Has God put a vision in your mind that He wants you to act upon for His glory and name's sake?
Are you doing a Jonah, << Test First Name >>?
