The truth about God's people: the Church

In a world where multitudes of opinions are shared so readily, it is very easy to get caught up, confused about what constitutes reality.

Many will tell us that being a Christian is pointless, that we evolved by time and chance and that God doesn't exist. Some will criticise us for being part of the Christian church that has seen children abused in its midst and injustice carried out in the "name of God". Generalisations, distortions of reality, and even outright lies can seek to belittle and demean our identity as the people of God and members of the Church.

If we are not careful, instead of shining our light from a hill for all to see, we can soon be found hiding it under a bushel for fear of others and their opinions.

God desires us, as His people, to know who we are individually and collectively in Christ and to live joyous and fearless in that reality. 1 Peter 2:9 says:

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light."

This is how God views His people, the Church, and each of us as one of its members. What an encouragement this is for each of us to participate fully in the life of the church!

May we revel in the knowledge of this reality and every spiritual blessing in Christ.

God bless you
