Messages

Do you remember ever getting a really great message?

After studying hard in year 12, I waited anxiously for many weeks to find out my marks. I hoped to study medicine and pursue a career in this field. University places were very competitive and your scores were all important. The day for the delivery of the letter finally came and I watched from the front window of our house waiting for the postman.

The red bike arrived and the postie in a blue shirt and shorts stopped at our letterbox and inserted some mail. Out the front door I raced, quickly found the letter I was looking for and ripped it open. Good news, my marks would get me into medicine! I was excited to share the news with my parents.

How times have changed since 1978!

Messages today are given and received in a variety of ways - email, snail mail (letters  ), SMS text messages, facebook, Messenger, and direct face to face conversations, to name just a few.

But good news is still good news!

And good news is for sharing!

As Christians, we have been entrusted with the most important life changing message of all - the good news message of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Romans  10:13-17 says:

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."

Our friends and family will be saved only through a believing faith in Jesus Christ, which first depends on hearing the message through the word about Christ.

Let's be reminded of the eternal value of the gospel, free to receive but priceless in value, and always be ready to pass on the amazing message that we have received from God.

God bless you
