A young girl steps up to the microphone and is asked a question: “What is your dream?” The young girl opens her mouth and says exactly the same thing as the girl before her: “World Peace”. Of course, I am talking about an American beauty contest where this happens, however, what a great question! What is your dream?
When was the last time you stopped to dream a little? I am not talking about sleep dreaming, or day dreaming, I am talking about allowing God to impregnate you with a dream to make this world a better place.
Martin Luther King Jr once stood at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. to deliver a speech entitled ‘I have a dream’ to thousands of onlookers. In his speech he says, “I have a dream, that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.” Martin had a dream for equality, where blacks and whites were treated as equals. The nation was impacted and what began was a turn around. Martin’s dream changed the course of history for America.
What is there to say that you might be sitting on a dream that could change the world? What is there to say that maybe there is a dream that God has placed in you and now is the right time to act on it?
Why do we not dream anymore? Is it because we have been squashed in the past when we have shared a dream? Is it that we think we are too old or too young? Is it that we just don’t believe our dream could ever come true?
In the movie ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’, Will Smith and his son are playing basketball and his son is saying that he wants to go pro when he grows up. His Dad then explains that sometimes dreams don’t come true and not to get his hopes up. But then something comes over the Dad as he sees his son’s face. The dad says something that I want to encourage you with today:
“Don’t ever let somebody tell you that you can’t do something. Not even me, alright? You’ve got a dream, you’ve got to protect it; if people can’t do something themselves they want to tell you that you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period!”
I sense God is stirring people with a dream to make this world a better place. Maybe it’s time you made that dream a reality.
Someone once said, “A dream is only a dream until you tell somebody.” It’s time to tell somebody, ‘cause the world needs that dream God has placed in you.
Blessings and peace,
