Devoted To Prayer
My prayer has been for you *|FNAME|*, that over the course of this month of corporate prayer and fasting, you would (or have already!) come to a place where you are devoted to prayer.
After all, that is exactly what God's Word calls us to be when it comes to praying and connecting with our King. Romans 12:12 (NIV) says:
"12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."
'Faithful' is not really the best English word to explain what Paul was getting at when it comes to prayer. A more accurate translation of the word proskartere would be devoted. In other words, God longs that we would be devoted - dedicated and set apart - for prayer.
What does being devoted to prayer look like? John Piper from Desiring God explains devotion to prayer perfectly in one of his messages on prayer:
"It does not mean that prayer is all you do — any more than being devoted to a wife means all the husband does is hang out with his wife. But his devotion to her affects everything in his life and causes him to give himself to her in many different ways. So being devoted to prayer doesn’t mean that all you do is pray (though Paul does say in another place, “pray without ceasing,” 1 Thessalonians 5:17). It means that there will be a pattern of praying that looks like devotion to prayer. It won’t be the same for everyone. But it will be something significant. Being devoted to prayer looks different from not being devoted to prayer."
Have you discovered *|FNAME|*, what it looks like for you to be devoted to prayer? I trust that if you haven't yet, God will reveal exactly what this looks like for you as you continue to go deeper and further in the spiritual pursuit of prayer!
